Our Story
From Pilot Origins to Industrial Scale. Discover the journey of DDJ Farms
Our Origins in Mbita
DDJ Farms was established in 2015 in Mbita, Homa Bay County. What began as a small kitchen garden focused on tomato production quickly showed us something important: with the right care, this land had the potential for high-quality, professional farming.
These early results led us to move away from small-scale gardening and start a well-planned expansion into commercial agriculture. Every seedling was planted by hand, ensuring each plant had the best chance to survive and thrive.
The Lake Victoria Advantage
A major part of our success is our location near the shores of Lake Victoria. This gives us a strategic advantage by providing access to a reliable water table.
In an area where rainfall can be unpredictable, our proximity to the lake allows us to run advanced irrigation systems. This means we can keep our crops healthy and our supply steady, no matter the season.
Growth Through Discipline
Strategic Launch
DDJ Farms was established in Mbita, Homa Bay County. Starting with a focused kitchen garden, our early results confirmed that professional tomato farming had massive potential in the region.
Scaling Operations
Through disciplined management and reinvesting our profits, we moved into commercial production. We acquired essential equipment to ensure our growth was backed by real capacity.
Expert Partnerships
We partnered with global leaders like Bayer, Seminis, Growpact Kitale, and Hortech Nakuru. This allowed us to combine our field experience with world-class scientific guidance.
Modern Infrastructure
To solve the challenge of unreliable rainfall, we installed advanced irrigation systems. Leveraging Lake Victoria, we secured a consistent, year-round water supply for our crops.
10-Hectare Hub
DDJ Farms now operates as a specialized 10-hectare hub. We produce premium hybrids like Ansal and Rafano, focusing on high standards, transparency, and reliable market delivery.
"We didn't try to grow too fast; instead, we managed our profits from each harvest and put them back into the farm. This slow and steady approach ensured that our capacity always matched our growth."
— DDJ Farms Philosophy
Modern Farming & Expert Partners
As we expanded, we moved from basic farming to a more professional, technical operation. We began using tractors for primary and secondary tillage to ensure the soil was perfectly prepared. However, we kept a “human touch” for the most important tasks—like planting every seedling by hand to ensure it survives and thrives.
To stay at the top of our field, we partnered with world-class experts. We regularly consult with agricultural specialists from Bayer and Seminis. By using their scientific guidance and sourcing elite seedlings from Growpact Kitale and Hortech Nakuru, we make sure every tomato we grow meets high market standards.
